Director is in favour with the audience

Sebastian Ritschel received the honour of "crowd-pleaser" for his remarkable work in the last season. The survey referred to him as a director who has created lasting theatre impressions for many visitors. The outstanding productions of the last season are the staging of the opera EUGEN ONEGIN and the much-discussed operetta DER VOGELHÄNDLER. Ritschel set new standards in his directorial work and successfully realized his convincing interpretations. The audience thanked him for his courage, his creativity and the consistency in converting his ideas.

Sebastian Ritschel was born in Duesseldorf and studied musicology and dramatics at the University of Leipzig. Among his staged works one can find the First act of Richard Wagners DIE WALKÜRE (2007) and WEIßE ROSE by Udo Zimmermann (2008). In 2009 he lead the performance of the opera LINKERHAND by Moritz Eggert and Andrea Heuser to its world premiere. In 2010 he staged his first CARMEN by Georges Bizet followed by Glucks OPRHEUS AND EURYDIKE. In 2011 his new production of LA TRAVIATA and DER VOGELHÄNDLER followed. In 2012 and 2013 he staged Strauss' ARABELLA, Tschaikowsys EUGEN ONEGIN, Jerry Bocks FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, Mozarts LE NOZZE DI FIGARO and an open air version of ORPHEUS AND EURYDICE. 2013/2014 followed THE FLYING DUTCHMAN, Strauss' DER ROSENKAVALIER and Sondheims musical thriller SWEENEY TODD. In 2014/2015 Sebastian Ritschels staged HANSEL UND GRETEL and UN BALLO IN MASCHERA. Jerry Hermanns LA CAGE AUX FOLLES will follow in may 2015!

Since 2011 Sebastian RItschel is lecturer of the Masterclass "Opera" at the Hochschule für Musik "Carl Maria von Weber" in Dresden.
